Our Core Values

Oneness
Har Shalom is a Jewish community with a common purpose. We each have the responsibility to support each other and to recognize and strengthen our interconnectedness as Jews both locally and in the world. Our mutual success is rooted in bonds with the Jewish people and cultural and spiritual continuity with generations of our forebears as well as our descendants.

Nourishment
Har Shalom is dedicated to fulfilling the spiritual, social, cultural, intellectual and educational needs of its members. We strive to support each other’s spiritual journey and share the wonder, fulfillment and satisfaction of Jewish community and tradition.

Engagement
It is the responsibility of Har Shalom to constructively engage with its
members and the Jewish community. In order to achieve this goal, Har
Shalom must offer a broad range of services and ways for members to
become involved, empowered and to contribute. Only through active engagement, can Har Shalom maintain and grow a satisfied and dedicated membership.

Inclusion
As the only synagogue in Missoula, Har Shalom has the responsibility to
be inclusive as its serves the needs of the Jewish community. We strive
for openness in accommodating all denominations of Jews, individual
diversity in Jewish practice, inclusion of non-Jewish family members and
our diverse community’s wide variety of spiritual, social and cultural needs.

Education
In keeping with long-established Jewish tradition and mindful of our community’s needs, Har Shalom strives to offer diverse educational opportunities for all ages.

Justice
Consistent with deep-rooted Jewish values and the concept of Tikun Olam (repairing the world), the Har Shalom community shares an interest in service, tzedakah, social justice. Whenever possible, it is our duty to contribute to the welfare, security and interests of our Missoula community, Montana, the United States and the world.

Sustainability
The Har Shalom community shall strive to ensure its financial and organizational viability.

Space
Places for sacred, social, educational and ritual purposes are essential
for our community. Har Shalom's building is very important and the work to physically and financially maintain the building is a crucial component of our success. Jewish spaces also include our homes, the beautiful outdoors and any other place we gather.
